The phorminx (in Greek old φόρμιγξ / phórminx ) is a cord musical instrument, ancestor of the Cithare, which was used in ancient Greece to accompany the songs by the Aède S. It was famous to be invented by Hermes with a carapace of tortoise and bowels of Bœuf.
