The pholque phalangide ( Pholcus phalangioides ) is a Araignée of the family of the Pholcidé S.

Appearance

Typical spider of the houses, it recognizes itself easily with its very large legs (which sometimes makes it confuse with a faucheux or a Tipule. Pholque the phalangide is held in the corners of the parts, in top of the windows where it weaves an irregular fabric. It is held to with it hung, the legs in top, the body in bottom.

Behavior

Food

Like all the Spider S, this species is predatory and nourishes small flying insects being caught with its fabric. With the occasion, it also attacks animals going which meet wire of its fabric. Thus a Tégénaire, spider however larger and of more robust appearance, does not have any chance against him.

Reproduction

The male will approach the female with prudence because it could take it for a potential prey and consume it. It thus will make vibrate the fabric of the female according to a particular rate/rhythm in order to be made recognize by it. The female, once fertilized, will lay its eggs in a silk construction, the cocoon. It constantly will transport it with it until the blossoming of its small. Those, which are able to provide for their needs only at the end of a few days, will remain on the fabric of the female.

Venom

Although it is poisonous, this species is absolutely without any danger to the human being.

Distribution

If it is rare in the north of France (where it is competed with by other species), it is on the other hand very common in a broad southern part of Europe.
