Phoebe Cates (born the July 16th 1963) is an American actress who put a term at her career to raise her children.
Its name of birth is Phoebe Belle Katz. It follows the steps of her father and his uncle, changing name for professional reasons. It is initially mannequin for magazines, and also plays in some publicities.
It becomes famous in 1982 for its role in Fast Times At Ridgemont High in which one sees it removing the top of his bikini in a sequence with the idle which exists only in the imagination of judge Reinhold (Brad Hamilton).
This same year, in the film Paradise , and to contrast with the timidity of Brooke Shields in the film the Blue Lagoon (1980), it appears entirely naked in several scenes, using however a lining for certain close-ups. She admitted later in a discussion with the magazine People which she a little badly felt at ease about these scenes of nudity, and which his/her father had advised to him them to play in the way that she considered most artistic possible.
In 1984, she plays a big role in film with great success of Joe Dante, Gremlins, and will take again this same role in 1990 for the continuation, Gremlins 2, the new generation.
Its following roles modest and are rather intended for a young public. Its face makes the cover of many magazines for teenagers. It also launches out in the theater in 1984 and meets a certain success there.
In 1989, she marries the actor Kevin Kline whom she had met during a hearing for the film the Buddies initially (1983), role which was finally allotted to Meg Tilly.
In 1991, it failed to turn in the Father of married the with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton, but it falls pregnant and must give up.
With their the first two children Owen (1991) and Greta (1994), Phoebe and Kevin play the part of the Gold family in The Anniversary Party (2001), the last role in date of Phoebe.
Their third child, Fall, were born on February 1st 2005.
Today, it directs a shop of gifts, The Blue Tree , located on Madison Avenue at New York.
