The fields Phlégréens (in Italian, it campi flegrei ) constitute a volcanic area located at the west of the town of Naples, in the Campanie. The name comes from the Greek and means “extreme fields”: thus appointed indeed them the first Greek colonists, because of the persistent volcanic activity of the place, related to the Vesuvius.
Today, one finds there in particular the towns of Pouzzoles and Cumes.
The level of the ground in the area of the Phlégréens fields rose of approximately 2 m since 1970. It is a Supervolcan still in activity (scale 8).
