Philon de Byzance
Philon de Byzance : scientific and technical writer Greek - End of third century BC
Philon de Byzance is the first Greek mechanic whose work reached us mainly. The plan and the contents of this one will be propagated until in the Byzance 10th century. It includes/understands various works of techniques and Poliorcétique:
-
Traité lever S
- Pneumatiques
- Traité automats
- Traité marvellous instruments (Orgue S and pipes)
- Traité traction of the heavy trucks (Baroulkos)
- Traité Clepsydre S
- Traité construction of the ports
- Traité Fortification which constitutes the first complete work of what we had on this topic
- Traité machines of war
- Traité Roue S which are driven they-even
The tires and the treaty of the Clepsydre S reached us by the Arab way.
The treaty of the machines of jet clearly indicates to us the existence of an already old tradition with in particular the use of modules to build the machines and of formulas to draw dimensions from them.
Philon de Byzance gives a description of the hydraulic organ and suction Pompe and pressing Ctésibios of which he is regarded as the successor. It is thus at the same time compiler and innovator.
