Phillip Island

Phillip Island (: 7071 inhabitants) is an island located at the entry of bay of Western Port, in the south of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria in Australia.

The island owes to its name to the governor Arthur Phillip a former governor of the News-Wales-of-South.

The island has a surface of approximately 100 km ² with a 26 km length over a maximum width of 9 km. It has 97 km of coasts. a bridge of 640 meters connects it to the continent close to the town of San Remo.

The island is used for the cattle breeding (ovine and bovine) on 60% of its surface. It attracts also many tourists (3,5 million per annum) because of the presence of penguins Pygmies who return per thousands the evening on the island and of the largest Australian colony of sea lions. One practices there also surfing or fishing with large.

Circuit of Phillip Island

The circuit of Phillip Island is a high place of the mechanical Sports. Built in 1956, it has a length of 4  448 meters, a width of 13 m and has a straight line of 900 Mr. Délaissé during the years 1970, it is in 1985 that it is repurchased and renovated. Until 1997, only two races were disputed there. Since, is held there the Grand Prix motor bike of Australia.

Located at the edge of the ocean at Cowes, the circuit of Phillip Island is one of fastest and most spectacular of the championship of the world of MotoGP, where the pilots must adopt a cast control.
