Philippe de Hesse-Philippsthal

Philippe de Hesse-Philipsthal (in German Philip von Hessen-Philippsthal), born with Cassel the December 14th 1655, deceased the June 18th 1721 with Aachen.

It was Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal of 1663 with 1721.

In 1680, Philippe de Hesse-Philipsthal married Catherine von Salms-Laumbach (1654 - 1736), (girl of Othon von Salms-Laumbach).

Eight children were born from this union:

  • Wilhelmine de Hesse-Philipstahl (1681 - 1699)

  • Amélie de Hesse-Philippsthal (1684 - 1754)

  • Amoene de Hesse-Philippsthal (1685 - 1686)

  • Philippe de Hesse-Philipsthal (1686 - 1717), in 1714 it married Marie von Limburg (1689 - 1759, (girl of the count Albert von Limburg (posterity)

  • Henriette de Hesse-Philippsthal (1688 - 1761)

Biography

Philippe de Hesse-Philippsthal was the first landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal and the founder of the fifth branch of the House of Hesse.

Philippe de Hesse-Philippsthal belonged to the branch of Hesse-Philipsthal, this fifth branch is resulting from the first branch of the Maison of Hesse, itself resulting from the first branch of the House of the Brabant.

After the abdication of the landgrave Ernest de Hesse-Philippsthal (1846-1925) in 1868, the branch of Hesse-Philippsthal remains with the sixth branch of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld currently represented by the prince Guillaume de Hesse-Philippsthal (1933-).
