Philippe Van Parijs

Philippe Van Parijs (born in 1951) is a Philosophe and Belgian economist of French language.

He is doctor of philosophy of the Université of Oxford, he studied the political economy, sociology, the right and linguistics.

He is currently professor with the catholic Université of Leuwen (Hoover pulpit of ethics economic and social) and with Harvard.

Universally famous promoter of the universal Allowance, he is the founder (1986) BASIC Income European Network, since 2004 BASIC Income Earth Network (BIEN). In Belgium it was one of the promoters of the idea to grant the right to vote with all the foreigners. Van Parijs was also one of the partisans (together with Kris Deschouwer, in the group known as “Pavia”) of a Belgian electoral constituency.

It received in 2001 the Prix Francqui, the most prestigious Belgian university distinction.

He speaks French, Dutch, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
