Philippe Meirieu

Philippe Meirieu (November 29th 1949 with Ales, Gard, France -) is a Pédagogue French, inspirer of IUFM.

Christian of left, near to the socialist capacity, it largely contributed to generalize the Pédagogie in France, which, according to him, were not adapted any more to answer in particular the challenge of the education of mass.
In his logic, the teacher works at the same time to inform and educate, the conjunction of both being “with the service” of the emancipation of the pupil. Philippe Meirieu points out that the pupil being free, the didactic techniques could not allow to make the economy of the teaching relation itself, thought in terms which evoke at the same time Fichte and Lévinas. He puts before all the accent on the fact that each pupil is different and that a class is thus heterogeneous. Vis-a-vis this heterogeneity he proposes to use the Pédagogie differentiated and more particularly the groups from need.

In 2006, he is godfather of the cultural project and educational Cité of the knowledge of the 21e century for the Seguin island with other personalities such as Régis Debray, Albert Jacquard or Axel Kahn. Always in 2006, it gives up postulating with a new mandate with the direction of the Academic institute of training of Masters (IUFM) of Lyon. It did not wish, indeed, being named by the Minister for State education, Gilles de Robien, too feeling in dissension with the decisions taken, these last years, in the educational field, to assume these responsibilities.

He is member of the committee of sponsorship of the French Coordination for the Decade of the culture of peace and non-violence. He is member of the scientific advice of the ADEME (Agency of the Environment and the Control of Energy).
