Philippe Langlois ( Ph' lippe Langliais into Norman), born the September 22nd 1817 and dead the June 19th 1884, was a writer Normand. He wrote under the pen names of “Luorenchais” and “P.L. ”.
Of an old family of the St. Lawrence (Jersey), Ph' lippe Langliais made studies of Médecine to Paris and Dublin. Become erudite and scientist, it was also Député, Juge of the royal Cour (elected the June 27th 1876) and major and medical officer in the militia.
As a president of Sociêté Jèrriaise , Langliais collaborated in the beginnings of the Glossaire of the Jersey Patois with its compatriot Asplet the Large.
Langliais was a prolix poet: to each poetry that it published corresponds perhaps twice more who remained with the state of Manuscrit, in French and English.
Its best parts in Jersey and most known are Lé Vièr Temps and Lé Jèrriais .
