Philippe Henri, marquis de Ségur , is a French soldier born the January 20th 1724 and died the October 3rd 1801, which was Marshal of France and Secretary of State to the War of Louis XVI.

Wire of Henri Francois, count de Ségur (1689 - 1751) and of Angelica of Froissy (1702 - 1785), legitimated natural girl of the Regent, it was cornet and captain with the regiment of Rosen Cavalerie (1739), colonel of the Vexin regiments (August 22nd 1743) and Soissonnais (December 1st 1745) and was useful under the command of his father in Italy and Bohemia. He was wounded in Roucoux, in the Flandres, in October 1746, lost an arm with the Bataille of Lauffeld in 1747 and was named sergeant on July 27th, 1747. March 23rd 1748, it succeeded his/her father like general Lieutenant out of Champagne and Brie and became Brigadier on August 25th 1749. In 1753, it was named Gouverneur Comté of Foix.

During the War Seven Year old, it fought with Hastenbeck (1757), Crefeld (1758) and Minden (1759). In 1760, it was made prisoner with Clostercamp. It was named general inspector of the infantry on May 25th 1758 and general Lieutenant on May 18th 1760. He became knight of the Ordre of the Holy Spirit on June 7th 1767.

The capacities which it showed as governor of the Franche-Comté in 1775 made it name Secretary of State to the War on December 25th 1780. It created in 1783 a permanent general staff and took remarkable payments concerning the barracks and the military hospitals. If he endorsed the responsibility for the edict demanding reactionary in 1781 four districts of nobility for the nominations as officer, it seems that he did not approve it.

Fact Marshal of France in 1783, it resigned of its department in September 1787.

During the Terror, it was locked up with the Prison of the Force and, after its release, was tiny room to greatest poverty. Napoleon I {{er}} made him a pension in 1800. He died the following year.

In 1749, it had married Louise Anne of Vernon. They had as children:

  • Louis Philippe, count de Ségur (1753 - 1830), diplomat and historian;
  • Joseph Alexandre Pierre de Ségur (1756 - 1805), soldier and man of letters.
