Philippe Gaubert

Philippe Gaubert , born on July 5th, 1879 with Cahors and dead on July 8th, 1941 with Paris, was a leader, flutist and type-setter French.

Biography

He is in particular the author of Ballet S, Symphonie S and three sonatas for flute. With Welsh Victor, he was prize winner of the Prix of Rome for the musical composition in 1905 . As from 1919, he was director of the music to the national theater of the Opera, professor of flute to the Conservatoire and director of the Orchestre of the Company in the concerts of the Academy.

His/her friend Jean Bouzerand, journalist obtained that the municipality of Cahors dedicates a public garden-garden at the edge of the Batch to him.

Works

Its compositions, which in the plan of the style are extremely influenced by Gabriel Fauré, include/understand:
  • an opera
  • several compositions for orchestras (whose symphony, a conzerto for violin, a conzerto for violoncello)
  • its chamber music relates to especially the flute:
    • 3 sonatas for flute and piano (1917, 1924 and 1934)
    • Sonatine for flute and Night piano
    • and Allegro scherzando for flute and piano
    • a wind quintet
