Philippe François Rouxel de Blanchelande

Philippe (or Philibert) François Rouxel, Viscount of Blanchelande (born with Dijon the February 21st 1735 - guillotine in Paris the April 15th 1793) was governor French of Saint-Domingue at the time of the bursting of the Haitian Révolution.

In 1781, Blanchelande takes to the English the island Trinité, and then as governor as 1781 with 1784 is used to with it. Later, it is named lieutenant with the government of the Leeward Islands.

It succeeds as governor of Santo Domingo to the general governor of Peinier, left for France end 1790. While it is in station, the “revolt of the Blacks” will begin following the Cérémonie from Wood-Caiman from 1791. It is with the head of the royalist forces which repress the revolt directed by Dutty Boukman.

Blanchelande is returned to France on order of Leger-Happiness Sonthonax, the September 17th 1792. It is replaced by Esparbès (itself replaced by Galbaud of the Fort which, after June 1793, will take refuge in the United States). Convinced of treason, Blanchelande will appear before the revolutionary tribunal and will be condemned to died on April 11th, 1793.
