Philippe Besson (born the January 29th 1967 with Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire) is a writer French.
In 1999, its literary vocation is waked up by the reading of accounts of war veterans of the First World War, and it begins the writing of its first novel: In the absence of men .
This first work will be noticed and published by the Julliard editions; it will be the beginning of a long collaboration between the writer and the editor. Published in 2001, the novel, which puts in scene the character of Marcel Proust, is rewarded by the Emmanuel-Roblès price. The same year, in August 2001, Philippe Besson His brother publishes who will be retained for the selection of the Femina. The film adaptation that will make of it Patrice Chéreau in 2003 will receive the money Bear to the festival of Berlin. Thereafter, creations of Besson will be usually the adaptation object to the screen.
In 2002, two new novels are born: the Off-season (inspired by a fabric of Edward Hopper: Nighthawks or night-birds ) and a boy of Italy which will be published in 2003; the first rewarded by the Grand Prix RTL-Lira of 2003, and the second selected for the Price Goncourt and Médicis.
At this stage of his career, Philippe Besson decides to devote himself exclusively to the writing. Its novel the fragile days , 2004, is centered around the last days of Rimbaud and holds the attention of François Dupeyron for an adaptation to the cinema.
Philippe Besson asserts a filiation proustienne just like, although its style moves away from there, it acknowledges his admiration for Martin Page, Marguerite Duras and Arthur Rimbaud. Its writing, centered on the relational one and the feelings of its characters, reveals an private interest for the topic of the anguish, and the difficult chemistry of the human relations.
Attention of course not to confuse Philippe Besson with Patrick Besson. This last showed besides Philippe Besson of usurpation of Family name.
In March 2007, it signed with 150 intellectuals a text who invite to vote for Ségolène Royal, " against a line of arrogance" , for " a left of espérance".
To also note that it appears on the screen in its own role, in the film Caché of Michael Haneke (2005) with Daniel Auteuil and Juliette Binoche - the writer is the guest of a literary emission, animated by Daniel Auteuil, for a debate on the poet Arthur Rimbaud - a service which it comments on in these terms: " My great beginnings of actor. My great ends also, I reassure you . "
