Philippe Barbarin

Philippe Xavier Ignace Barbarin , born the October 17th 1950 with Rabat (Morocco) is an archbishop and cardinal French.

He belongs to a phratry of 11 (6 girls including 3 nuns, 5 wire of which the cardinal and a doctor); the father is deceased, the mother (Yvonne Roque), octogenarian, always saw; it was ordered priest the December 17th 1977 in Alfortville for the diocese of Creteil. It was named and ordered bishop of Moulins in October 1998. Archbishop of Lyon since 2002, it is also cardinal-priest title of the Trinity-of-Mounts since the October 21st 2003. It was sometimes quoted like Papabile for the Conclave of 2005.

Cardinal-archbishop of Lyon and Primat of Gaules, the Barbarin cardinal blesses every year the Lyons city at the time of the renewal of the wish of the Aldermen, on September 8th, pronounced by his predecessors since 1643 in the honor of the Virgin Mary which protected formerly Lyon from the epidemic of plague. The archbishop sees himself giving by the mayor one ecu of gold and a candle, as a sign of recognition in Notre-Dame de Fourvière. He blesses then the city since the balcony of the basilica with the Blessed Sacrament. Three blows of gun are drawn at the time from the blessing.
