Philippe Auboyneau

Philippe Auboyneau (November 9th 1899 - February 22nd 1961) is a Admiral French. It ordered naval units of the free France in the Pacifique and the the Mediterranean during the Second world war.

Born with Constantinople, where his/her father was Othoman bank manager, it enters to the Naval college in 1917, whereas it is only 17 years old. At the time of the entry in war of the Japan, whereas it is in Australia, it takes part in several operations in the Pacifique south near the Australian fleet. It carries out in particular a raid in the vicinity immediate of the bases occupied by the Japanese navy, in order to evacuate the garrisons of the islands Nauru and Ocean.

Returned in London in April 1942, the Rear-admiral Auboyneau is named with the command of the free French Naval forces. Also national Police chief with the Navy, it then inspects the French naval units in equatorial Africa, with the Raising, Djibouti and Madagascar.

At the conclusion of the combat in North Africa, it is named Chief of Staff general assistant of the Navy then major-general at the time of the arrival of the Gouvernement of Algiers. It is then one of the principal craftsmen of fusion between the FNFL and the Navy of North Africa.

It leaves then these functions to take the command of the 3rd Division of Cruisers, with the head of which it takes part in the Débarquement of Provence in August 1944.

In 1945, become Vice-admiral, it orders the Naval forces of the Far East. For this reason, it transports and supports the troops of the general Leclerc in the South-Annam and directs the operation of unloading to the Tonkin.

Post-war period

Member of the Superior council of the National defense and member of the Superior council of the Navy, Philippe Auboyneau is then named General inspector of the maritime Forces and Naval Aviation. Thereafter it turns over in Indo-China to again order the maritime Forces of the Far East.

In 1955, it is named commander-in-chief of the French maritime Forces in the Mediterranean. It will be its last station.

Member of the Council about the Legion of Honor, the Admiral Philippe Auboyneau is deceased in Paris, on February 22nd, 1961. Its funerals proceeded in the Church Saint-Louis-of-Invalids, in the presence of the President of the Republic, the general de Gaulle. It was buried with Marly-the-King in the Yvelines.
