Philippe Aubert de Gaspé (October 30th 1786 - January 29th 1871) is a writer of French language born in the British colony of the Province of Quebec (today the Quebec).
Biography
The family of Gaspé is originating in the French Noblesse. Philippe Aubert de Gaspé would go down from the Québécois business man,
Charles Aubert of Chesnaye. He was born with
Quebec. He made there his studies with the Séminaire of
1798 with
1806. He became
lawyer in
1811. Of
1804 with
1816, he is in turn lieutenant of militia of
Quebec, then Capitaine and
Major, and finally Shérif of the district of Quebec. Then it is other with dimensions of the barrier since recognized guilty of
Embezzlement.
Relieved of its functions, it takes refuge with the field of his mother with
Port-Jolly. It helps there his son Philippe Aubert de Gaspé Fils to write the book which crowned it first novelist québécois.
Of
1838 with
1841, it is imprisoned for Dette. Then it returns to Quebec in
1842. It is on the end of its life that it will write its writings half novel half memory. He dies in Quebec.
The municipality of Saint-Aubert (Quebec) was named in its honor.
