Philippe Apeloig
Philippe Apeloig is a graphic designer and French typographer born with Paris in 1962.
Biography
It continues its studies with the University of the applied arts Duperré then to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of decorative arts. It is during training courses that it carries out in 1983 and 1985 in Amsterdam in the studio Total Design , that it is interested in the typography.Philippe Apeloig begins his career of graphic designer in 1985 with the Musée of Orsay, then in 1988 it obtains a purse of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and share to work with Los Angeles with April Greiman. Of return of Los Angeles, Apeloig creates its own studio in Paris in 1989. In 1993, it obtains a purse of boarder of the Académie from France to Rome with the Villa Médicis. In 1997, it becomes consulting artistic for the Musée of Louvre, then he becomes artistic director as from 2003.
Philippe Apeloig teaches the typography and the graphic design at the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of Decorative Arts of 1992 to 1999, then with the Cooper Union School off Art of New York of 1999 to 2002.
Its work
During his career, Philippe Apeloig works primarily for cultural institutions. At the beginning of its career, it realizes celebrates it poster for the Chicago exposure to the Musée of Orsay. Later, it creates also many posters for the museum of Louvre as well as the visual identity of the Musée of art and history of the Judaism of Paris. He is also the creator of logos like that of the label Musée of France or that of the expostion Cézanne in Aix-en-Provence.Influenced by the Russian Constructivisme and the Bauhaus, its approach is in the line of the “Swiss style” (use of grids, police forces without serif…). Apeloig declared for example: “All my posters are made up on the basis of a grid, which plays the part of the foundations of a building. It is a system which I learned in Holland and which I continue to use. ”.
The work of Phlippe Apeloig however leaves a place with freedom and poetry or of Lire the Caribbean one: Cuba, Haiti ).
Several of creations of Philippe Apeloig belong to the collections of MoMA.
