Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg
Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg , known also under the first names of Philip James and Philipp Jakob , known as the young person (October 31st 1740 – March 11th 1812) is an English artist of French origin.
Formation in Paris
Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg was born with Strasbourg in 1740.His/her father, Philipp-Jakob (1698-1768), which practiced the art of the miniature portrait, was also engraver with Darmstadt. He gave to his son his first artistic formation. Installed with Paris in 1755, the Philippe-Jacques young person made his studies under the direction of Charles-Andre van Loo, (Portraitiste), Francesco Casanova (painter of marine and war), and with the academy Jean-Georges Wille.
He was elected with the Académie Royal French and named painter of Louis XV in 1766.
Installation in London
Following the invitation of David Garrick, director of actors, it left Paris for London in 1771 and became responsible for the scene of the Royal Theater of Drury Lane to London, with comfortable wages of 500 £ per annum. Its work was very noticed, appreciated by the Londoners and even acclaimed by the specialists. Its last great projects with the theater were the setting in scene of spectacular the Pantomime Omai , and the voyage around the World , according to the writings of James Cook, in 1785.
L'" Eidophusikon" or mechanical Theater
Philippe-Jacques de Loutherbourg (the Young person) made his first exposure to the Royal Academy in 1772 and was elected like titular academician in 1781.During this same year, it exposed its " Eidophusikon" or mechanical theater - in precursor of the " Panorama s" 19th century -, which fascinated Gainsborough and caused an lively interest on behalf of Joshua Reynolds.
He exposed his works during his many voyages in Great Britain, of which:

At the end of its life, its reputation was maltreated a little by its implications in the Mysticisme.
He died in 71 years, in Chiswicket, the March 11th 1812.
