Sir Philip Sidney (1554 - 1586) was an English poet.
Called “most accomplished of the gentilhommes of England” by its contemporaries, he was the nephew of the count de Leicester, favorite of the Queen Elizabeth. He resulted from the medium Protesting, to which he will be faithful all his life.
14 years old it is leaves to finish its studies with Oxford. Then of 1572 to 1575 it makes a long voyage on the continent, as it was appropriate then for an young man quite born. On her return the queen entrusts a diplomatic mission to him near William of Orange with the Netherlands. But the royal favors cease in 1580 after he had written a letter with the queen to disadvise to him marrying the Duc of Anjou.
In 1585, the queen recalls it to fight against the Spanish installed in the Netherlands. It is mortally wounded with the battle of Zutphen at the 32 years age.
