The prince Philippe, duke of Edinburgh (1921-) is member of the British Royal family.
He is the fifth child and only sons of the prince André of Greece and Denmark and the princess Alice de Battenberg.
He occupies the 504e place in the order of succession with the British throne.
Marriage
The
November 20th 1947, it marries with
London the princess Elisabeth, girl of the king George VI and the Queen Elizabeth. At the time of this marriage, it gives up Greek nationality
and under
Prince de Grèce and of Denmark and take the name of his mother
" Mountbatten" to become a British subject
without titles. Little time before the marriage, his/her father-in-law named it Duc of Edinburgh, but without the title of prince. At the time of the accession of his wife to the throne, the
February 6th 1952, it became
Prince Consort, thus carrying a royal title, Philip does not have more family name. It is made
Prince of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland by his wife in
1957. The couple has four children:
