Philibert II of Savoy , known as the Beautiful , born with Bridge-D' Ain the April 10th 1480, it is deceased with the same place the September 10th 1504, was duke of Savoy and prince de Piémont of 1497 with 1504. He was the son of Philippe II of Savoy and Marguerite de Bourbon.

Childhood

He passed part of his childhood to the Court of France, near his maternal uncle, Pierre of Bourbon-Beaujeu (husband of Anne of France). He took part in the Guerres of Italy at the side of Louis XII.

In 1497, it succeeds his father with the head of the Duché of Savoy.

Married life

He marries initially his cousin Yolande of Savoy (heiress of the elder branch of the family, Philippe II and Philibert pertaining to the branch junior). But the young girl dies very quickly. Philibert, impassioned hunter, leave the government of its States to his/her half-brother, Rene of Savoy (wire naturalness of Philippe II) and spend its time in frivolous occupations.

In 1501, it remarie with Marguerite of Austria, girl of the emperor of Austria Maximilien de Habsbourg and godmother of Charles Quint.

The life of Phillibert the Beautiful will be upset about it. Indeed, this young person and beautiful 21 year old princess will allure her husband, to take on him a great influence, and Marguerite will make drive out Rene of Savoy, after a defamatory lawsuit.

End-of-life

But this happiness ends in 1504: Philibert dies in 24 years after a shooting party. It leaves the duchy of Savoy to his half-brother Charles III of Savoy.

Marguerite of Austria will make build the church of Husks (with Borough-in-Bresse in the Ain) in homage to her husband, church in laquel it was buried with his/her mother Marguerite de Bourbon and Marguerite of Austria itself.
