Philately set of themes
The Philatélie set of themes (baptized in the beginning constructive philately ) is one in the three principal ways to collect postage stamps and other documents philatelic and postal. It consists in gathering the latter if they have a relationship with a particular topic, then to organize them for a public presentation or a conservation with an encyclopedic aim.
History
In the Years 1940, a group of Alsatian monk notes the difficulty of the general collection by country, because of the growing number of country and emitted stamps. They imagine a novel mode of research and classification of the stamp, on other bases that of the transmitting country (collection by country), and, in the place of the stamp in the postal history of this country (specialized Philatélie), they propose to be interested in such or such of the subjects of the illustrations carried by the stamps, such as the religious subjects, sporting, or animalist, etc
In 1949, the Alsatian canon Lucien Braun (born on March 1st, 1886) publishes in German with Strasbourg Konstruktive Philatelie - Ein Beitrag zur philatelistischen Volkserziehung (in French: constructive Philately ). A contribution to popular philatelic education.
Two years later, in 1951, takes place the congress founder of the International federation of constructive philately. In 1953, the French Association of constructive philately is created in France before becoming on June 9th, 1961 the French Association of philately set of themes (AFPT).
In consequences of the development of philately set of themes, the postal administrations adapted their annual philatelic programs to include traditional topics there (fauna, flora, history, scouting, sport, postal aviation,…), likely to attract the customers of the collectors thematists to them. Certain countries, often to widen their sources of currencies, emit more stamps than do not require their postal needs in order to provide the merchants of stamps in required topics. Among the topics which are the subject of emissions systematically, even by countries which do not have a direct link: the Olympic Games, the Football world cup, certain famous characters (the princess Diana was entitled to stamps in Central Asia), etc the most astonishing examples are series on the winter sports emitted by tropical countries or representations of the Virgin Mary on stamps of an emirate of the United Arab Emirates.
Practices
The collector set of themes chooses a subject according to its tastes, the availabilities of the stamps or its scientific objectives. Among the recurrent themes: part of the fauna or Flora, the Plane S, a sport, a type of sports event (Olympic Games, Football world cup), a famous character, a trade, etc
It then collects the stamps which illustrate this topic directly or indirectly (an animal or an object with the background of a scene). It can to or not add other philatelic documents them: Obliteration, postal Flame, illustrated Envelope or Whole postal, Chart-maximum, etc
The stamps collected by the thematists, are generally the postal figurines relative to their center of interest.
But they can to also associate the revenue stamps them concerned with the same topic.
There exclusively exist also thematists fiscalists, but whereas the postal set of themes is based above all on the image, the tax set of themes is based above all on the function. Thus will be able one to include you in the maritime topic the stamps of bills of lading, or in the animalist topic, those of meat and hunting permit, or topic cyclist, stamp of vélocipèdes, etc, etc (mobile cf Revenue stamp).
The purpose of the organization of a collection set of themes is a philatelic and scientific talk on the selected topic. A collection on the topic of the pinks can propose, for example, a study of the species of this flower whose philatelic documents are the illustration. Another example, a war or a reign is told using postage stamps on events. The philatelic magazines regularly use this method for certain articles.
Material
Philatelic editors publish catalogs of stamps by topics: the whole of the stamps on the butterflies for example. The stamps are classified by country and the editor gives the number of classification in principal the catalogs nationals. One of the principal specialist publishers in this type of catalogs is Domfil.
