Phil Laak (born in 1972 with Dublin, Ireland) is a player of professional Poker. It is called " Unabomber " in the medium of the poker.

Biography

Born in Ireland, Phil Laak grows with the the United States where it made studies of engineer. After its studies it occupied several trades such as croupier, stockbroker, bookmaker and even " robber of car professionnel" (according to its own terms). Then player amateur of Backgammon it gained a tournament of this discipline in 1997 and decided to become professional player. He discovered the poker and settled in California in 1999, he made there the meeting of Antonio Esfandiari (also player of professional poker) with which he will settle some time in collocation and which will learn how to him to manage the money gained after its victories in tournaments. Sometimes today still, Phil Laak and Antonio Esfandiari like to divide the same room when they are found registered with the same tournament in the hotels of Las Vegas. He is currently the companion of the American actress and player of poker Jennifer Tilly.

Prize list

A title WPT (World Poker Turn). Three times in the paid places of WSOP (World Series Off Poker) and seven times in the paid places of WPT (including five finales). Phil Laak forever gained bracelet of world champion but failed to take down of them one when it arrived finally from the $2500 Pot Limit Hold' EM, finale which it lost vis-a-vis Johnny Chan.

Characteristics, Unabomber

Phil Laak owes its popularity with its style of unforeseeable play and its exuberant behavior with the table. Thus he plays invariably equipped in the same way: he wears a gray sweat shirt whose hood is folded back on its head and he hides his glance behind black glasses, which was worth the nickname of " to him; Unabomber " that Gus Hansen gave him (Unabomber being the nickname of the American terrorist Theodore Kaczynski, which wore to him also a sweat shirt and glasses). When it put the integrality of its carpet ( all in ), with the risk to leave the tournament in the event of reverse, Phil Laak with the practice to draw on the cords from its hood, thus dissimulating its face inside its sweat shirt the made-to-order of the character of Kenny in South Park. Moreover, Phil Laak does not hesitate to jump or run around the table like leaving its chair to make series of pumps and the abdominal ones on the ground. This boosted behavior remains generally well accepted by its adversaries although some consider this way of playing not very professional. Nevertheless, one should not be mistaken there: if Phil Laak has a behavior of most incongruous when he plays, he knows what he does and does not play anyhow. If its intrigues are unexpected and exuberant, its way of playing is calculated. It is a player difficult to read and its style of play is generally regarded as aggressive and unforeseeable, its gesticulations being certainly its personal way to concentrate. Phil Laak is also impassioned for the human brain, telepathy and besides cognition, it states to have the capacity to read in the thoughts of its adversaries.
