Phil Bredesen

Philip Norman Bredesen (born in 1943) is a democratic politician , former mayor of Nashville and 48e governor of the American State of the Tennessee since January 2003.

Phil Bredesen was born the November 21st 1943 and grows in a small agricultural community close to New York. Graduate of Harvard, Bredesen and his Andrea wife Tells, moved in Nashville in 1975. They are parents of an only son.

Phil Bredesen began its professional path by creating HealthAmerica Corp., a pharmaceutical company with dimensions with the New York Stock Exchange. It sold its shares in 1986 of them before beginning a political career.

After a succession of local defeats at the polls or main roads between 1987 and 1991, Bredesen is easily elected mayor of the town of Nashville in 1991.

At the post of mayor until 1999, he likes to recall that during his mandate, he engaged 440  new teachers, built 32  new schools and makes some renovate 43  others. He made also build a new great stage (Coliseum) and a news large library.

In 1994, Bredesen was presented under the democratic colors to the election of the governor of the State but was beaten by the republican Don Sundquist.

In 1995, it is re-elected mayor of Nashville.

In November 2002, Bredesen makes countryside on a program of social reform and is elected governor of Tennessee, beating the republican Van Hilleary.

In December 2005, it is the 25e the most popular governor of the country with a rate of approval of 57  % (bearing SurveyUSA Survey on 600  residents of each State carried out from December 9th to 11th 2005. Margin of error of 4  %).

In November 2006, it is re-elected with 69  % of the voices against 30  % with the republican candidate Jim Bryson.
