Discovered in 1887, the phenacetin is a Composé aromatic organics used mainly like Analgésique. Its effect is felt for amounts lain typically between 300 Mg and 500 Mg per day. The analgesic effect is due to the action of phenacetin on the sensory zones of the Spinal-cord. Moreover, phenacetin has an action calming on the Cœur or it acts like negative Inotrope. It is also a Antipyrétique which acts on the Cerveau to decrease the temperature. It is also used to treat the Polyarthrite rhumatoïde, the Névralgie intercostale and certain forms of Ataxie.

In 1983, phenacetin was withdrawn from the market because of its bond with cases of Néphropathie.

Studies showed that phenacetin is Cancérogène in the animal. At the man, many cases of cancer of the kidney showed a bond with the catch of products containing of phenacetin. An exploratory study showed that the phenacetin catch could increase the risks of deaths due to diseases of the Rein S, with cancers and with cardiovascular diseases.

The Paracétamol, which is a metabolite of phenacetin, has properties analgesics and antipyretic similar, but is stripped of its side effects.
