Phelsuma guimbeaui
This gecko is rather massive. It is green sharp, with orange spots or bands. The head presents longitudinal lines oranges.
Geographical distribution
This Gecko lives in the primary forest of the Mauritius.
Subspecies
Climatic parameters
The climate is hot and wet, with temperatures approaching the 30°C with the hottest endrois, and in general rather near to 20°C for the more shaded zones, with a Hygrométrie exceeding the 80% most of the time.
Breeding in captivity
A Terrarium of the tropical type wet, of size 60x60x80cm (width/depth/height) is appropriate for a couple. A contribution of UV (Ultraviolet) is essential for this diurnal species which can undergo deficiencies in Calcium (for lack of synthesis of the Vitamine D3) in the event of insufficient contributions.
This gecko is regarded as relatively difficult to raise, and thus to hold for stockbreeders having a minimum of experiment.
Food
This animal is Insectivore and consumes the majority of the Insecte S of adapted size. It also consumes fruits, by lêchant pulp.
Behavior
These reptile S is apprehensive and flees towards hiding-places sytématiquement. Besides the stress has a strong impact on these animals which can even cease even reproducing to feed.
It should be noted that the males are territorial, and badly support to be put in presence. They are moreover more readily cannibals towards the small ones of their Espèce.
Maturity
Sexage
The females are smaller than the males (13cm maximum).
Reproduction
Layings
Incubation
The eggs incubate during approximately two to three months under the natural conditions.
It seems that the sex of small is determined by the temperature of incubation (as at other species of reptiles) but also by the conditions of lighting and perhaps moisture.
The small ones
The small ones are small with the birth (3cm) and generally do not nourish insects the first week, but consume fruits on the other hand.
Diseases
Like all the diurnal geckos, those are sensitive to the deficiencies in Ultraviolet, which induce a deficiency in D3 vitamins and thus lead to a bad fixing of calcium.
Moreover as the majority of the reptiles living in moist environment these animals are sensitive to the falls of moisture which involve driven problems of and more generally of the problems of skin.
