Phelsuma

Phelsuma is a kind of geckos which includes/understands Espèce S mainly resulting from the island of Madagascar and surroundings (Réunion, Seychelles), although some species populate other places (gulf of the Bengal and south of the Africa). The species of the kind Phelsuma are also called diurnal Phelsumes or Geckos.

The geckos of this kind are Diurne S (from where the name running of the kind) with a round Pupille, except for the species Phelsuma guentheri . They are mainly Arboricole S (except Phelsuma barbouri and Phelsuma ocellata , terrestrial), and live typically in the hot and wet forests.

In fact animals of intermediate size, with a body generally post hole, and have colors often very sharp, at generally green base with points or lines blue, red, black…

They are insectivorous, but much also appreciate fruit nectars.

They present a characteristic compared to the others geckos: the presence of bags endolymphatic under the neck. These bags contain Carbonate of calcium and are used as concerning the regulation of calcium, especially in the females in gestation (to produce the shell of the eggs).

All the species of this kind are placed in appendix II of convention QUOTE except Phelsuma guentheri which is in appendix I. For France, from the local laws completely protect the species present on the French territory, namely Phelsuma borbonica , Phelsuma inexpectata and Phelsuma ornata .
