Phalempin
Phalempin is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
Its inhabitants is called the Phalempinois .
Geography
Located at 15 km in the south of Lille and 15 km in the north of Lens, in the Carembault on the RD 62.
Station the SNCF (Lines Lille Douai - Arras - Amiens - Rouen and Lille-Lens).
History
The village of Phalempin appears with the Moyen-âge. If one refers about it to his dubious etymology ( fanum pini = the temple of the pine), it would have been a necessary of Culte dedicated to the pine in the Forêt of the place. A legend telling the loves of Gautier and Éleyne is also associated with the site.
Nevertheless the existence is historically attested by the foundation of a Abbaye with the XIe century by the Châtelain of Lille Saswalon and by the presence of the Château of Plouich, stronghold of the lords of the manor of Lille, whose Nécropole was located at the abbey.
The Fief passes by heritage to the Luxembourg-Saint-pol., then with the Bourbons, to belong to the heritage of Henri IV whereas the Netherlands are under Spanish domination. The perdure abbey until the Revolution, during which the last Moine S are driven out and the buildings dismantled and sold like national goods.
The Industrialization sees to settle in Phalempin a moutardery, a rope manufacture, a boiler making and a tilery.
During the First World War, Phalempin is occupied. Resistant of the time, Achilles Péchon (1860 - 1915), is even taken as hostage and shot by the Germans.
After the occupation 1940 -1944, the village is released the September 2nd 1944.
Tilery still remains in activity nowadays, near some farms which manage a still agricultural territory, in spite of an urbanization more and more growing. A zone of activity, accommodating the European market of endive in particular develops with the one of the entries of the city, within the framework of the Community of communes of Carembault. The proximity of the agglomeration inhabitant of Lille and the facility of the communications with it transform little by little a rural village residential downtown.

northern Border of the zone of the Spoil heap S, Phalempin is especially known for the wood of Phalempin . Served well by the Train, it was the principal lung of greenery while coming from Lille, until the middle of last century. Residences cossues were set up at that time. Now that each one has a car, and because of its low surface, it is less with the mode.

Each year, the semi marathon attracts to 2500 participants.

Of its history, Phalempin preserves the framing of a gate of the Abbaye (in a private Jardin), a vault, known as " Vault of the moines" , two Chapiteau X of old the church (burned) which is used as stoups in the current church (1904). At the Musée of the Art schools of Lille are preserved a gate of the abbey (nonvisible) and a Bas-relief coming from a tomb (medieval collections). The town hall is located in the Château Melchior.
