Phạm Thị Hoài

Phạm Thị Hoài is a novelist Vietnamese born in 1960, in full time of the Guerre of Việt Nam, in the North of the Việt Nam. Just like the writers Nguyen Huy Thiep, Duong Thu Huong and Bao Ninh, Phạm Thị Hoài takes part in the literary rebirth of the Vietnam which makes following the interruption caused by the Guerre of Vietnam, an armed conflict which lasted between 1964 and 1975. Its first novel, i.e. " The crystal " messenger; is published in 1991, but is interdict in Việt Nam because of the official control exerted by the Vietnamese government on the culture. It nevertheless is translated into six languages and receives a German literary prize rewarding the best foreign novel in 1993 (Frankfurt Literaturpreis).

Today, it shares its time between Hanoï and Berlin, the place where it studied the literature in the years 1980. In addition to its work of novelist, Phạm Thị Hoài is also known to have translated into Vietnamese literary works coming from famous German authors such as Franz Kafka, Bertolt Brecht and Friedrich Dürrenmatt.
