Phú Quốc

Phú Quốc is the largest island of the Vietnam. It belongs to the province of Kiên Giang and an archipelago of 22 islands. It has a surface of 585 km ² for 50 km length.

It is also called the island of emerald for its natural treasures and its tourist potential. The island is also known for quality, in particular the odor, of its fish sauce which is designed starting from a small poison called cá còm , which brings a great quantity of protein. Six million liters is produced every year. She experiences a significant tourist development, being connected by plane to Ho chi minh city and by boat directly to Thailand.

It should be noted that the sovereignty of this island was the subject of an important dispute on behalf of the Kingdom of Kampuchea in which it is known under the name of Koh Trâl. A minority of origin khmère always lives the island, in particular north. However, the treaty of establishment of the borders between Vietnam and Kampuchea signed in 2005 (?) seem definitively to allot the island to Vietnam.
