Peyriat
Peyriat is a common French of the department of the Ain. Its inhabitants are called Peyriatis.
Geography
Peyriat is located at the Center is Département of Ain in the Top Bugey, in the Massif of the Jura. Its communal territory, rather exiguous, form an undulating rather regular quadilatère by the Berthiand Mounts. It is delimited by the communes of Nurieux-Volognat, Saint-Martin-of-Ash, Maillat, Ceignes and Leyssard. The commune includes/understands two agglomerations, the village of Peyriat and the hamlet of Giriat.
History
One finds in Peyriat of the traces of the Roman occupation and burgonde. To the the Middle Ages, initially depend on the Lords of Coligny then of those of Thoire, Peyriat passes under Savoyard domination in 1402 and this until in 1601, date of fastening of the Countries of Ain to the France, by the Treaty of Lyon. Before 1789, Peyriat was a village of the parish and seigniory of Volognat (election of Belley, subdelegation of Nantua, mandement of Montreal, justice of the county of Montreal). The book of the complaints of the villages of Peyriat and Giriat shows that their inhabitants live in the greatest destitution.
After many lawsuits with its neighbors, the limits of the commune are definitively established in 1818.
The two world wars will not épagneront the population of the commune.
The number of inhabitants, in constant reduction since the medium of the XIXe century will reach a minimum of 85 inhabitants to rectify itself very appreciably as from the years 1970 with the appearance of new buildings in the village and the hamlet of Giriat.

Economy
For a long time, the single source of revenue of Peyriatis was agriculture. There remain now only three farms, the large majority of the inhabitants going to work in the basins of use of Nantua and Oyonnax.
