Peugeot 905

The Peugeot 905 (1988 with 1993) is a racing car racing designed by Peugeot, victorious of the 24 hours of the mans in 1992 (1st and 3rd) and 1993 (triplet).

History

In 1988, the team Peugeot Talbot Sport of Jean Todt lance the " project 905 " , to take part in the " Championship of the world of the Sport Prototypes " , proposed by the TRUSTED.

Technologically very succeeded, the 905 uses a frame in Carbon fiber conceived in collaboration with Dassault Aviation and a driving V10 out of light alloy near to what was made in Formule 1 at the time.

The 905 is officially presented the July 4th 1990 on the Circuit of Nevers Magny-Course, with the pilot Jean Pierre Jabouille at the wheel.

Beginning 1991, 905 " Evolution 1 " knows some problems of performances and reliability, but obtains all the same a happy victory with Suzuka with the Japan. With the 24 hours of Mans, the 2 cars are swift, but give up, the first with 18:30 for a breakdown of Allumage, the second with 21:45 for a problem of Gear box: the 905 are adapted to the short races of the championship, but not to the races of endurance. For the continuation of the championship, large modifications are made (primarily on the level Aérodynamique), and the 905 " Evolution 1 (a) " , initially planned for 1992, finishes the year while gaining with the Circuit of Nevers Magny-Course and with sailed round Mexico City with 2, which made it possible Peugeot to finish second of the championship. The 24 Hours of Mans remain a competition of quality, by still authorizing the vehicles of TRUSTED Group C. The 905 LM is conceived to gain this race, which it will make thanks to Yannick Dalmas, Derek Warwick and Mark Blundell. The third place will be also occupied by one 905, and a third will give up after a fixing at the beginning of race with a Toyota TS010.

In 1993, the 905 carry out a historical triplet with the 24 hours of Mans, and will make their good-bye with the competition in the tread. One 905 " Evolution 2 " , prepared for the season 1993, will not finally run, its lines will be found in those of replacing of the 905, the Peugeot 908
