Petty Officer

Petty Officer is a category of Sous-officiers certain anglophone military navy. It can result in Petty officer but corresponds more exactly at the end of “ main ” of the French-speaking navy. The Canadian navy uses in particular French " maître" to translate Petty Officer

As follows:

  • the ranks of Petty Officer S (PO), of the marines of English language, correspond to those of Second Master and Maître of the National marine.
  • those of Chief Petty Officers (CPO) with those of First Master and the Main main thing (officers higher marines)

The United States of America

There exist many ranks of petty officers in the marine of the United States. Higher with low graded:
  • Master Chief Petty Officer : higher rank of petty officer in all the navy. They embark only on board greatest units. There exist special rows reserved to the holders of this rank:

    • Master Chief Petty Officer off the Navy : it is about oldest of the petty officers of all the navy. It acts like advising of the chief of Staff of the navy.
    • Command Master Chief Petty Officer : it is about oldest the Petty Officer on board a great unit of the fleet. It acts like advising of the commander.
  • Senior Chief Petty Officer .
  • Chief Petty Officer .
  • Petty Officer 1st class .
  • Petty Officer 2 class .
  • Petty Officer 3rd class .

The United Kingdom

There exist two ranks of Petty Officers in the Royal Navy : Petty Officer and Chief Petty Officer (equivalent French: Master and first Master).
