Pettingen
Pettingen is a commune of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg (to 2 km in the east of Mersch)
medieval castle
The fortress is known as of the 10th century under the name of Pittigero Mazini.
With 13th it takes the name of Pettingen or Pittange.
When its lord gives an opinion for the duke of Lorraine against Charles the Bold one (duke of Burgundy) it is exposed to a seat and the destruction pure and simple of castle.
The whole of its goods will be even confiscated to him in 1494 and it will have then to be waited until 1503 so that his/her son can return in possession of half of the goods (the remainder is preserved by the general government of Luxembourg).
The castle is then rebuilt in its current form and in 1571 the 4 turns of angles are added.
In 1684 the troops of Louis XIV bombards it and reduces it in the actual position.
Since 1947 it is the Luxembourg state-owned property.
