Petru II Cercel

Petru Cercel (Loop of Ear) , is prince de Valachie of 1583 with 1585.

Wire of Pătraşcu concealment Bun, exiled initially with Rhodos, then with Trébizonde, it ties relations with Greeks, of the French and Turks. He is the first Rumanian prince to use the French policy to arrive at the throne. He remains in Paris in 1579 and gains the confidence of the regent Catherine de Médicis and of his son the king Henri {{III}}. Their diplomatic support near the Sublimates Door and of the Turkish Sultan allows him to obtain the throne of Valachie in July 1583.

The enormous sums paid by its candidate Mihnea {{II}} Turcitul destroyed the French influence and it loses the throne the April 16th 1585. It resides then at Constantinople, and Minhea, which feared its intrigues, succeeds while paying: 70000 ducats with the Sultan and: 20000 with the Top dog to make it at sea drown in April 1590 at the time of a crossing between Constantinople and Rhodos.

Its nickname is related to the loop of ear which it carried to the mode of Nice of the French court.

Of a relation with an unknown woman, it left several children, of which:

  • Marcu Cercel, governor of Moldavie in 1600 for the account of his/her uncle Mihai Viteazul.
