Petra Burka

Petra Burka , born the November 17th 1946 with Amsterdam, is old a artistic skater Canadian. She gained an Olympic bronze medal and a championship of the world.

Biography

Petra moved with the Canada in 1951 with his/her parents. His/her mother is the former Dutch champion Ellen Burka. She gained its first championship of Canada as a junior in 1962 and she becomes the first woman to carry out triple Salchow in competition. That enabled him to go to the Championships of the world for the first time and finished 4th. In 1964, it gains a bronze medal with the Olympic Games of Innsbruck with a performance described as dazzling. In 1965, it gains the 3 championships: from Canada, of North America and world. It becomes also the first woman to make a success of triple Salchow at the time of a championship of the world and it is first Canadian since Barbara Ann Scott to gain the world crown. Petra also gained 2 bronze medals with the championships of the world. It was withdrawn in 1966, and it patinated in a professional troop until 1969.

Since its retirement of the competition, it became trainer. It was also analyst of figure skating on television for networks CBC (Canada) and CBS (the United States).

Petra gained 2 times consecutive the Trophée Lou Marsh. She was also established with the Temple of re-elected sports in Canada in 1966, with the Temple of re-elected Canadian Olympic Association in 1972, in Ontario Sport Legends Hall off Famed in 1995 and with the Temple of re-elected Canada Ice-skating in 1997.
