Peter Stämpfli

Peter Stämpfli (born on July 3rd, 1937 with Deisswil) is a painter Suisse of the mobility of the Pop Art.

Biography

Guided by attentive parents, he discovers the Peinture by exposures of contemporary artists . From 1954 to 1956, it goes to School of the Art schools de Bienne and was the pupil of max Von Mühlenen (painter, creator of stained glasses) which helped it to be formed. In 1958, with the Kunsthalle of Basle an exposure which joins together Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Mark Rothko… made discover in Peter Stämpfli American art , the tables of big size and pushed it to settle with Paris (1959) with the Bateau-Lavoir. In 1961, he Marie and a year later he move street Our-Lady-with-Lorette and cotoie other artists. He wonders how to introduce the Figuration in a new manner into painting. He then carries out many paintings with details of objects and gestures resulting from the daily newspaper, immortalized in one single moment on a white and large zone which them monumentalise in an astonishing simplicity.

In 1963, it exposes to the 3rd Biennial one of Paris and receives good criticisms. It makes its first personal exposure to the City-Gallery of Bruno Bischofberger with Zurich in 1966 then with Paris with the Gallery Jean Larcade. It starts to paint rather details of car (wheels, tires…). It launches out in the drawing and in 1969, it carries out its first short-measuring Firebird (16 mm), then in 1974 it makes its second film continuous Line (16 mm) and in 1981, it carries out a film of assembly: Stiges 1900 (16 mm).

It will carry out its first monumental sculpture in 1985: Print of tire S 155 installed with the short-nap cloth of the ground to the Park of Small-Leroy the, Chevilly-Larue in 1989. The the SEITA order the same year with several artists (Erro, Rancillac,…) and in Stämpfli an original work to celebrate the Gipsy.

A fire destroys its building of the Quai of the Seine and arranges a new workshop in Seine-Saint-Denis. In 1991, the Abbey one of Swiss Bellelay in , in order to celebrate its 850e birthday organizes an exposure of recent works of Stämpfli. In 1999, the coach station of Freiburg opens its doors where Stämpfli made Exit : sixteen monumental wall panels.

Peter Stämpfli always lives in Paris.

Since the first prints of tires of the Sixties, the painting of Peter Stämpfli evolved to appronfondissement of the detail until the result of a work close to the geometric abstraction.
