Peter Mandelson

Peter Benjamin Mandelson (born the October 21st, 1953) is a politician of the the United Kingdom, member of the Workers party and appointed Hartlepool. One regards it as one of the principal architects of the transformation of the British Workers party into what one called the “New Labor”. He was twice member of the government and was constrained twice to resign. He was appointed new Police chief with the Trade of the European commission.

Peter Mandelson was born with London in 1953, grandson of the Labor Minister Herbert Stanley Morrison. He made studies of political sciences, philosophy and economy with the Université of Oxford. He was elected at the Municipal council of Lambeth in September 1979 but left it in 1982, disappointed by the state of the Workers party.

He was producer for London Weekend Television before becoming the Communications director of the Workers party in 1985. It is at that time that it acquires in the British press its nickname of “Prince of darkness”. It is him which dealt with the effective management of the countryside members of the Labor Party at the time of the legislative elections of 1987, which was balanced in a failure.

It left this function in 1990 and was selected like Labor candidate for the head office of Hartlepool. He was elected with the House of Commons at the time of the elections of 1992. He had little influence on John Smith which directed the Workers party then, but made some speeches noticed to underline his support for the European Union.

In 1994, died of John Smith, Mandelson a big role in the countryside of Tony Blair played to take the head of the Party and it became an ally and a close adviser. It organized the many changes of the Party at that time, which attracted to him the animosity of a whole part of his/her colleagues. He became the campaign director at the time of the elections of 1997 which brought back the Members of the Labor Party to the capacity after nearly 18 years of opposition. After the election, it was named Minister without portfolio, was responsible for the project of the “Dome of the Millenium” in London for the year 2000.

In 1998, it joined the Cabinet as Secretary of State to the Trade and at Industry but on December 23rd, 1998 it had to resign after one had revealed that it had touched a secret real loan of 373.000 Books of his rich person colleague to the government Geoffrey Robinson, without to have declared it with the government or at his organization of credit. After its resignation, Mandelson implies in the development of the think international tank Policy Network of which he becomes the president. There remained appointed for the district of Hartlepool of 1992 to 2004. It directed several committees to the Parliament. July 23rd, 2004, it was named member of the news European commission. President Jose Manuel Durão Barroso entrusted the wallet of police chief to him to the Trade. Confirmed by the the European Parliament, it left the House of Commons.

According to the list arrétée at November 11th, 2003, he is member of the scientific Committee of orientation of the association founded by Michel Rocard and Dominique Strauss-Kahn, On the left in Europe.

He is currently governor of the Fondation Ditchley. and honorary president of the think tank Policy Network.
