honourable the Peter Gordon MacKay (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, September 27th 1965) is a Canadian Politician . The August 14th 2007, it was named with the Canadian ministry of Defense.
He was the last chief of the Parti progressist-conservative Canada (PC). In December 2003, it supported a fusion of the party with the Canadian Alliance to form new the Conservative party of Canada.
Biography
Peter MacKay is graduate in right and, in 1991, was received with the Barreau of Nova Scotia. He exerted as lawyer, but also as magistrate in various jurisdictions.He was elected first once at the House of Commons of Canada in June 1997, with the title of the district of Pictou-Antigonish-Guysborough, under the colors of the Parti progressist-conservative Canada. He was re-elected in November 2000.
The May 31st 2003, it succeeded the former First federal minister Joe Clark with the head of the Party progressist-conservative. In August 2003 was published a IPSOS-Reid survey, indicating that the support for the party would have fallen, in three months, of 19% to 12% in the Canadian public opinion. It then started negotiations with the Canadian Alliance ( Canadian Alliance ) in order to amalgamate the two movements in a new party, the Conservative party of Canada ( Conservative Party off Canada ).
The December 6th 2003, an internal vote with the Party progressist-conservative ratified the merger plan by a majority of 90,4% of the delegates. The January 13rd 2004, Peter MacKay announced that it would not aspire to the direction of the new party. The 2004, a very vast majority of the militants and elected officials progressist-conservatives united with the new formation and, for the deputies, were affiliated with the new parliamentary group, while a small minority, whose former Prime Minister Joe Clark, chose to remain faithful to the old affiliation, and which others were going to sit like “independent”.
The March 22nd 2004, it is named chief associated by Stephen Harper, after the accession of this one with the head of the Conservative party.
The June 28th 2004, it is easily re-elected with the House of Commons, at the time of the election caused by the reorganization of the electoral districts, with the title of the new district of Nova-Center, in Nova Scotia. He is again re-elected at the time of the Canadian federal election of 2006. The February 6th 2006, it is sworn in with the cabinet of the Prime Minister Stephen Harper as a Foreign Minister and a minister responsible for the Agency of promotion of Canada Atlantique.
