Peter Greenaway

Peter Greenaway is an author, artist of the images, plastics technician and British scenario writer born the April 5th 1942. He is the realizer of his own works: films, exposures and Web sites multimedia.

Its principal creative policy is the singular encyclopedism.

Although its work is very impressed of blackness, British humor, deadpan and black Humor, there is extremely present. Its work is not without relationship with the “Pataphysique and the Oulipo although it does not refer there explicitly but already announced the influence on him of Italo Calvino member of Oulipo. It often uses the numerical constraint as element of structuring of some of its works. The films of Greenaway are centered on art in general (painting, architecture, music…) and often reveal a fascination for the color and the numbers. Its dark and cruel works privilege the slowness and the beauty of the setting in scene at the point to create certain a faintness at the spectator. Until 1991 it entrusts mainly the musics of its films to Michael Nyman.
