Peter Criss
Peter Criss , or George Peter John Criscuola , born the December 20th 1945, with Brooklyn, New York is an American musician, he is the first beater of KIS.
Biography
Peter Criss, friend of childhood of Jerry Nolan seeks at all costs to bore in the world of the music. He starts to play of the battery to old 13 years and assembles a group, " The Stars". He meets Gene Krupa in the Sixties, in a club where he occurs, the " metropolis club" with New York, that Ci will give him some councils out of battery. Peter plays in " The Barracudas" 1966, " Sounds off souls" 1967, " The Vintage" 1968, " The Others" 1969, Chealsea with which it records an album in 1970, and a model in 1971 for a second album which will never leave, then in " Lips" 1972 with Stan Penridge. It passes a hearing to be beater in the group of Elton John but it is not retained. His/her buddy Jerry Nolan becomes the beater of the New York Dolls, by being able Peter more decides in 1972 to pass an advertisement in the Rolling Stones Magazine by specifying that it is " loan to do anything for réussir". He receives a telephone call of some Gene Simmons which asks to him whether he would go until " to wear a dress on scène" , (what will end thereafter up becoming a joke). Gene and Paul Stanley will see it playing in a club with its group and find that in addition to knowing to play of the battery he sings marvelously well. It enters the group which is not called yet KIS but Wicked Lester. With Ace Frehley the future guitarist soloist of the group which will arrive little from time after in January 1973, the first formation of KIS is finally in place. Peter will be the last to polish his make-up correctly, will be besides a professional make-up man who will come to improve it the day of the photo session for the small pocket from the first album of the group, KIS 1974.Peter Criss also composes and sings. He will sing several songs on the first albums of the group, especially those of Ace which will not sing before the album (Love Gun 1977). Peter will write a song " Beth" with Stan Penridge and Bob Ezrin (Destroyer 1976) which will remain the largest success of KIS (7th in the American charts) during many years.
In 1978 Peter like the other members of the group records his album solo. On this disc one finds several songs of his collaboration with Stan Penridge in " Lips". A musician of studio, some Steve Lukather is credited in this album on two titles.
In 1979 because of its family problems, constantly under the influence of Drogues it does not play already practically more on the album " Dynasty" , he will sing a song " all the same; Dirty livin'" who will become a tube (maximum 45 turns will be even published). It is Anton Fig which ensures the battery on this disc. Peter appears on the small pocket of the disc which follows and in the video " Shandi" drawn from the album " Unmasked" 1980, but it ended up leaving the semi-80 group to start a career solo. It is still once moreover Anton Fig which takes care of the battery on this album. Anton which had played on the album solo of Ace had replaced Peter within KIS besides, but it is Eric Carr (1950-1991) which will be selected in August 1980.
Peter records then two albums solo between 1980 and 1982. Its side singer of ballade and his music " drunk person-rock" with American variety will not satisfy the fans.
He takes part in various projects in the Eighties. He assembles a group with his buddy Stan Penridge, The Criss/Penridge Alliance which will end up becoming simply The Peter Criss Alliance. It is found beater in 1986 of Balls and Fire, but it remains in this group that very little time. It is invited to play of the percution and to make the choruses on the album of Ace Frehley " Disorder walkin'" in 1989.
At the end of the Eighties, a rumor circulates according to which Peter Criss would have become an alcoholic vagrant. Star Magazine publishes even in 1989 an article on the subject, photographs with the support, which gives credit to this urban legend. It averre thereafter that all this is a hoax. One without shelter, Christopher Dickinson, which was made pass for him, will come to be explained in the television program " The Phil Donahue Show" in 1991, in the presence of Peter Criss on the plate. In the same emission a woman will be there to complain at Peter for a business going up with 1982. Rumors will continue to circulate thereafter saying that Peter is really " has been" and that he really lives under the bridges. Peter will put an end to all these stories by specifying that they are only lies.
In 1991 Peter forms a group bearing his name " CRISS" , this formation leaves an album in 1994. Then in 1995 after a passage on scene with its former accomplices Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Ace Frehley at the time of a concert unplugged on MTV, the group decides to be reformed with the make-up. It thus takes part in the reformation of KIS in 1996. Follows a gigantic world tour. In 1998 leaves the album " Psycho circus" , first album of KIS with the original formation since 18 years, number 1 in the United States.
In 2003 it takes part in the album live of KIS recorded to Melbourne (Australia) the group is accompanied by an orchestra by classical music, (Alive IV). Peter sings his song " Beth" accompanied by the symphony orchestra present on scene.
In 2007, Peter is the third of the original members of KIS to leave an album solo " One For All" after Gene " Asshole 2004 and Paul " Live To Win" in 2006. The figure " 3" is a figure carries happiness for Peter, besides it will carry it often on its costumes or even on its skin in tattooing and will sign its autographs " Peter Criss 3" because it arrived in third in this group… KIS… this group which made it famous!
Peter Criss belongs to these large beaters of the Seventies, it is enough to listen to its solos of battery to be convinced some, and it is also one exellent singer. The influence major of Peter is Frank Sinatra.
