Peter Bondra

Peter Bondra , born the February 7th 1968 with Loutsk in Ukraine, is a former Slovak player of Hockey playing in position of right winger. He passed the essence of his career with the Capitals of Washington in National league of hockey. He has a brother, Juraj, which had a short professional path.

Career in club

Bondra started to play hockey with Poprad in Czechoslovakia, where its family had moved when it was three years old. It begins with LVS Poprad in the first Czechoslovakian division at the time of the season 1985 - 86, and signs at the end of the season to TJ VSŽ Košice where there will remain four years, becoming champion of Czechoslovakia in 1988.

At the time of the Fishing out of entry in the LNH 1990, it is selected with the ninth turn by the Capitals of Washington and a few months later, it makes its beginnings in the National league of hockey. In 14 seasons with Capitals, it registered 472 goals and 825 points, which makes of it the best striker and the best meter of the history of the club.

At the time of the seasons 1994-95 and seasons 1997-98, it finished better striker of LNH. At the time of the season 1997-98 it reached with Capitals the final of the Coupe Stanley but had to be inclined vis-a-vis the Red Wings de Détroit.

In 2004, whereas Capitals knew one disappointing season and of the financial problems, it was transferred to the Senators d' Ottawa. With the autumn 2005, Bondra signed with the Thrashers of Atlanta.

The December 10th 2006, after not having found of team since the beginning of the season, it signs a one year old contract with the Blackhawks of Chicago. The December 22nd 2006, it becomes the 37e player of the history to register 500 goals in the LNH by marking the goal gaining against the Maple Leafs of Toronto.

The October 29th 2007, it announces that it takes its retirement of player to become director-general of the national team of Slovakia.

Statistical

International career

Having obtained Slovak nationality only in 1993, Bondra endorses for the first time the Slovak shirt in September 1993 with Sheffield at the time of the tournament of qualification for the Olympic Games of Lillehammer.

Bondra then represented Slovakia at the time of five international competitions: the Winter Olympics of 1998 and of 2006, the World cup of hockey 1996 and the championships of the world of 2002 and 2003. In 2002, it finished better striker of the tournament with seven goals, whereas Slovakia finally gained the gold medal after having beaten the Russia 4-3, Bondra marking the decisive goal hundred seconds before the end of the match. In 2003, the team gained the bronze medal.

It counts 35 goals for 47 selections.

Distinctions

Bondra was elected three times better hockeyor Slovak ( Zlatý puk ) and, in 2002, better Slovak sportsman. It took part in five matches of the stars of the LNH.
