Peter Abrahams (Vrededorps, Johannesburg March 3rd 1919)

South-African Novelist of English language.

First large black novelist of South Africa, it exiled himself at the 20 years age to escape the influence from the Apartheid and settles in Great Britain, then with the the Caribbean. Very prolific novelist, it was success as of Rouge is the blood of the Blacks ( Mine Servant boy , 1946) and the Path of the thunder (1948) which describe the industrial ghettos of its childhood. Wild Conquest (1950), historical novel, recalls the genesis of the conflict which opposes Blancs and Black. Its later books have as a framework the Caribbean or the West Africa ( a crown for Udomo , 1956; This island inter alia , 1966; The View from Coyoba , 1985) and take note of a painful rupture with its country of origin.
