Pete Townshend

Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend (May 19th 1945, Chiswick, London) is guitarist and British type-setter of rock'n'roll . It is more known as a member of The Who.

Biography

Born in a family from musicians (his father, Cliff, were saxophonist and its mother singer), Pete Townshend showed his fascination for the music as of its more young age. He discovers the American rock'n'roll very early “roll (his mother tells that he had seen many times the film of 1956: Rock'n'roll around the clock ), and is made offer its first guitar by his/her grandmother to the 12 years age. Problems of hearing

Musical influences

Spiritual influences

Townshend was a disciple of the Indian religious guru Meher Baba, which mixed elements of Soufisme, Védanta and mystical schools. The lesson of Baba was a major source of inspiration of much of its work, including Tommy , and the unfinished project of the Who LifeHouse . The song of Who Baba O' Riley , written at the beginning for Lifehouse and being reproduced finally on the album Who' S Next , was entitled besides thus in homage to Meher Baba and the type-setter minimalist Terry Riley. Although the lesson of Baba imposed the abstinence of Drogue, Townshend had several lawsuits public for Toxicomanie, and came very close to death in 1981 following an overdose of Héroïne.
