Pescennius Niger

Pescennius Niger (v. 140 - 194) is legate of Syria in 193 when the Prétoriens put the title of Emperor at the biddings. Tired palace revolutions in Rome, the provincial legions acclaim it at the same time as Septime Sévère. The legions of Syria are obviously the first to support their chief, but those of Palestine and Egypt follow the movement. It is the East which blazes up: the town of Antioche joins, as well as the Parthian and Armenian kings. But it does not miss supports in Rome among the craftsmen and the small holders.

Severe Septime, after being itself imposed on Rome, decides to leave to shift to eliminate its rival. He takes Byzance and Antioche, beats Pescennius Niger with Issos into 194. This one finds death while trying to take refuge at the Parthes.
