Peruvian general elections of 1990
The Peruvian general elections for the period 1990 - 1995 were held the April 8th and the June 10th 1990 to entirely renew the executive power and the legislative power.
At the conclusion of these elections, Alberto Fujimori was elected President of the Republic.

The writer Mario Vargas Llosa, stood as a candidate of the party Movimiento Libertad, the Christian Popular party of Luis Bedoya Reyes and of the party Acción Popular of Fernando Belaúnde Terry, joined together in the FREDEMO. A newcomer, Alberto Fujimori appeared on the political scene and drew the attention of the opinion by traversing the country at the wheel of farm tractors.
Results
First turn
Mario Vargas Llosa 32,6%; Alberto Fujimori 29,1%Shine Alva Castro 22,5%; Henry Pease García 8,2%; Alfonso Barring Lingán 4,7%.
Second round
Alberto Fujimori beat Mario Vargas Llosa with the second turn with 62,4% of the voices compared with 37,6% for its adversary.
