Persistent world
A persistent world ( Persists world or pw in English) is a Virtual world used as environment in a roleplay on line on computer. The characteristic of this virtual world is that it is persistent , i.e. it never stops, it exists and evolves/moves permanently, even when the player leaves it, disconnects and extinguishes its computer for example. Thus, during its absence, other people continue to play, and the world changes. When it is reconnectera, the player will find it different from when it left it.
The persistent worlds appeared with the advent of the Online games massively multijouor (or MMOG) on Internet, like Guild Wars , Ultima Online , Everquest or World off Warcraft . They are a kind of world parallel, evolving/moving independently of the player, but being able however to be modified by that Ci. The influence which a character can have on the virtual world varies according to the play.
The persistent worlds also exist in the plays offline, as Animal Crossing and its continuation Wild World . Even if technically, nothing really occurs when the play is extinguished, the illusion of the persistence of the virtual world east creates when a part is taken again, while calculating and by simulating the modifications which would have to be done thanks to the internal clock of GameCube.
The term of persistent world massively gained in popularity with the rise to power of the Roleplays on line multi-player (or mmorpg).
This term also indicates, in the players of Neverwinter Nights , the environment mmorpg creates by using the tools of the play.
