Perséphone (Stravinski)

Perséphone is a melodrama in three tables composed by Igor Stravinski, on a booklet of André Gide and a Chorégraphie of Kurt Jooss. The first representation took place with the Opéra of Paris the April 30th 1934, with Ida Rubinstein. Work is inspired by Perséphone, girl of Déméter and marries Zeus in the Greek Mythologie.

During this period Stravinski knows a spiritual rebirth which pushes it to write liturgical and crowned works of which the Symphonie of psalms .

Éva Gauthier, artist in concert, puts an end to its long association with Stravinski by interpreting, in first, the vocal title role of its melodrama Perséphone , in March 1935, then in recovery, 1936 and 1937.
