Peros Banhos
Peros Banhos is a group of 35 principal islands and several small islands of the North-West of the Archipel of Chagos, belonging to the British Territoire of the Indian Ocean. It is formed by a coral Récif circular. This group of islands was discovered in 1513 by the Portuguese navigator Alfonso de Albuquerque.
The largest island of the group, the Île of the Corner shelters the principal port and since 1756, a population which counted to 500 people lived there. In 1970, the totality of the population was expelled by the British government towards the island Maurice. More recently, these islands were studied to be a possible place for the reinstalment of the Chagossiens even if the access remains prohibited about it.
